Independence!

Hey Folks...

I was left to my own devices for the past 2 weeks, when my boyfriend of 5 years flew over to Kansas for his sisters wedding for 2 weeks. At first I didn't really know what to do with myself...having depended on him for so much. But the time apart definitely gave me some time to think and reassess my life. One thing for sure is...you realise how much more important your friends are and I did manage to touch base with a few that I had more or less lost touch with. It made me think about a topic for the show one day in the future. Do we lose our independence when we become a couple? Its easy to think no...but let me give you an example: A few days before he left, the drains in my house started to clog and became blocked. Then I had to pick up a piece of furniture from my moms house. There were a few 'chores' to do...which were (ha ha ha) "MANLY" chores. So I kept asking and asking for him to sort these things out for me...but the poor bloke was running around left right and center sorting out his own stuff for his trip.

Finally, when he left...I thought to myself "What am I gonna do about all the drains and the furniture?" Well...what d'ya know! I picked up the phone and made the call myself and got everything sorted the next day!! Ha ha ha....I was laughing to myself and I told my mom who also found it all amusing.

The bottom line I think is...keep your independance even when you are together with someone. Don't lose yourself and morph into the 'couple'. I know its cosy and ever so comfortable...but try to step out once in awhile and take that trip alone, for go for a drive to the store by yourself or sort something out that your partner would normally do. Self confidence and independance is a very attractive quality in a personand ever since my boyfriend has been back...I've found that! I also think he's chuffed that I've stopped asking him to help with the simpliest things. In fact...he's more impressed than ever! Remember who you are guys!
